This Wednesday’s match-ups at Moama Sporting Complex saw Peralandra’s race run in A-grade, eliminated by Hello Kitty in a 3-2 result.
Missing his partner, Stephen Hope pulled extra duties for Hello Kitty, assisted by a selection of fill-ins.
Peralandra scored a comfortable 4-0 win in the doubles, but couldn’t make the breakthroughs needed in the singles, losing three of the four rubbers.
In the other match-up, The Dukes had the opportunity to punch their own finals ticket, but it was Dragons who scored the 3-2 win.
Evenly matched in the singles, the doubles proved decisive, Dragons getting away 4-2 winners, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9.
It was an unconventional round in B-grade, as a host of teams were short of players.
The two scheduled games were merged into one, with the available players getting in what games they could.
In the end, Double P and JD were awarded victories on the played fixtures, while Tornado and DanDan suffered defeat.
C-grade also experienced difficulties with player numbers due to outside commitments.
The Petite Princesses vs Flaming Monkeys face-off was postponed, but two matches were still played.
Cuddly Kittens scored a nail-biting victory over Rockabilly, a 4-3 doubles result ultimately deciding the match.
Three of the five rubbers went the maximum distance, but it was the Cuddly Kittens pairing of Nathan Mackrell and Andrea Barry that took two of them and the overall points.
The final game of the round saw the winless Tigers of Old put in an improved performance against the new leaders Mad Dogs.
Mark Evans grabbed two singles wins for the Tigers, but Jesse Edwards and Ryan Simmons were able to do enough in the remaining fixtures to get the win 3-2.
In A-grade Hello Kitty is assured a finals place, holding a 4-1 record, but either the Dukes or Dragons could join them in the final should the final round go their way.
In B-grade Double P is way out ahead but could mathematically face any of the other three teams in the final, JD currently best positioned with the best game differential.
In C-grade, five teams are searching for four finals places over the final rounds.
Cuddly Kittens are the outside chance, sitting a game back of Flaming Monkeys and Petite Princesses, who also have their game against each other in hand.
Rockabilly’s game difference should carry them into the finals, while Mad Dogs is the only team assured a place in the last four.
