Tim Comer found few obstacles during a dominant campaign representing McEwen Reserve in the Shepparton District Tennis Association's pennant season and Saturday's grand final was no different.
Comer went three-for-three in a tooth-and-nail affair against fellow top contender Shepparton North, proving pivotal as always on McEwen's way to the 2023-24 premiership.
He and Tanner Hunter had put up the usual points early on, with McEwen taking the opening three sets, but Louise Dwyer and Helen Jackson rallied back magnificently to square the fixture after six.
It was fitting, then, that the tie was mathematically alive with a single set remaining after the two sides had gone toe-to-toe all season.
McEwen had won each of its three meetings with Shepparton North in regular season play, though, and that ability shone through at the death to wrap up the title 5-44 to 4-37.
