The second-placed Blues have moved to 8-0 after their 59-goal win over the Hawks at the weekend, setting up a clash of the undefeated heavyweights next week at Tongala Reserve this Saturday.
The Blues were untroubled in the 75-16 win, the perfect tune-up for the game against the reigning premiers.
“We went out firing, we knew we had to obviously having Deni coming up this week,” Blues’ coach Grace Hammond said.
“The girls knew what our game plan was and, same as every other week, stuck to it. It’s easy in one of those games to get carried away.”
Milly Brock and Halle Gray starred for Tongala as the Blues climbed to their best start to a season in recent memory.
“I’m not sure what the exact results were but in recent times it’s the best start we’ve had,” Hammond said.
“That comes back to the fact we’re more than just a team, we’re a group of friends who are playing to enjoy netball, and not overcomplicate the game.”
Hammond is hoping a close-knit, youthful Tongala can topple the might of the Rams, who will come in to the round 10 clash fresh off a bye.
“Obviously they’re a great side,” she said.
“To beat them we’ll need to beat their attacking end.
“They don’t often waste the ball when they get the opportunity so our defensive pressure has to be right up from that first whistle.
“Our fitness hopefully can get us the job done but either way it will be a great game.”
