Echuca-Moama’s dominance of the female football scene looks in good stead to continue in 2025, as all three local teams picked up wins in round two.
Echuca United vs Shepparton United

In the Goulburn Murray Girls League, defending champion Echuca United was set for its first match-up of the year after having to postpone a scheduled round one contest with Nathalia.
The Eagles took on Shepparton United in a 2024 grand final rematch at their home ground of Echuca South Recreation Reserve.
Despite the loss of several players, either upwards to the women’s league or to competition rivals, Echuca United started just as it finished, scoring a comprehensive win over the Demons, 12.15 (87) to 4.4 (28).
The Eagles held Shepparton United scoreless in the first and last quarters, kicking eight goals over the first half for a 42-point half-time lead.
The final margin could have been much bigger, but Echuca United was less accurate in front of goal in the second half, the Eagles’ overwhelming pressure yielding a wayward 4.8.
Reigning best-and-fairest and captain Harper Delamare hasn’t missed a beat after the off-season, kicking four goals, as did Jordi Cain.
The Eagles’ next contest is against Shepparton Swans on April 27.
Moama vs Barooga

Across the border, Moama also scored a strong win to move to 2-0.
Visiting Barooga’s defence held up in the early minutes, and the Magpies kicked only a single goal in the opening term, and two more in the second.

From 22-8 at half-time, the Mowers finally broke through in the third, kicking five majors and holding the Hawks scoreless to take a stranglehold over the game, before closing out the 9.5 (59) to 3.2 (20) victory in the fourth.
After six goals on debut last week, Zoe McCallum followed up with another four in round two. Ruby McLeod was the other multiple goal-kicker with two.
Moama will be at Deakin Reserve on April 27 for its next game against Shepparton United.

Echuca vs Mansfield
Echuca took the long road to Mansfield for its first away action of the year in the Goulburn Murray Women’s League, and came away with the points in comprehensive fashion.
The two-time defending champion held the Eagles goalless throughout the contest, slotting eight goals of their own to prevail 8.5 (53) to 0.1 (1).
Captain Kate Dixon led the way with three majors, while Sienna Lee kicked two and Olivia Dewar, Lily Hillman, and Tori Russell chipped in one each.
Echuca and grand final opponent Shepparton United remain the only undefeated sides in the competition, with United currently holding the advantage on percentage.
After the Easter break, Echuca will host Tatura at Victoria Park at 2pm on Sunday, April 27.
The under-14s side served as runners for Moama’s girls team.
