Two-horse race in midweek pennant

Just over halfway through the Campaspe Playing Area midweek pennant season, two main contenders look to have separated themselves from the chasing group.

Echuca had a fight on its hands to maintain its unbeaten run, getting by Moama 14-59 to 2-52.

Echuca skip Roma Opie’s nine-shot win, 25-16, was a big contributor to the result, while Kerryn Evans scored a narrow victory, 19-18.

Marilyn Stephenson pulled back some points for Moama, 18-15, but it wasn’t enough for her side to earn overall honours.

Mathoura has gone with Echuca through most of the season, this week picking up a 14-65 to 2-42 win over Deniliquin.

Skip Troy Mansbridge secured a dominant 32-7 win in his rink, leading his squad of David Murray (lead), Gayle Kerr (second) and Helen Holzer (third) towards a strong result for his Mathoura side.

Peter Pangrazio also earned points for Mathoura 19-17, while Stephen O’Brien clawed one back for Deni, taking his rink 18-14.

Rochester grabbed the win over Rich River, a 26-9 win from Brian Kinnane overthrowing losses in the other two rinks.

Gary Radford snuck a 23-22 victory for Rich River, and Brian Trengove also scored a rink win in the ultimately unsuccessful overall effort.

Middle of the pack Stanhope had the bye.

Division two

Moama grabbed a convincing win over Rochester 14-72 to 2-41.

Skips Mia Young and Kevin Connolly scored big wins for the Steamers, 31-12 and 27-10 respectively, while Anton Gusak helped Rochy walk away with a few points, winning his rink 19-14.

Echuca came out on top against Deniliquin RSL, Trevor Nagorcka making an impact, skipping his side to a 25-10 result in his rink.

Malcolm Thorn masterminded a second rink success for Echuca, while Linda Harris scored points for RSL.

Rich River proved too much for Ky Valley View, getting up 14-67 to 2-49.

Robert Thomas and Allan Linquist both picked up rink wins for Rich River, while Leanne Busch pulled back one rink for Ky.
