Moama’s under-15 side boasts an impressive 16-1-1 record, tying with Tongala in round 12 and falling to Deniliquin Rams by three goals in round three.
It bodes well for Moama that it has triumphed over Mulwala in their two encounters this season, winning by 24 goals in round 15 and three in the second semi-final.
Coach Leesa Hoopell said that while the girls are excited and nervous about the big game on Saturday, the job is only half done, and they must remain focused to come out on top.
“I think the girls are excited and a bit nervous for the grand final; it’s more excitement than anything, though, and so proud to be there,” she said.
“The job isn’t done yet, but we are halfway there. We just need to pass the Mulwala girls on Saturday.
“We’ve beaten them in both match-ups this year, but we are certainly not going in cocky; we know it’s going to take a lot of hard work to beat them on the day.”
Hoopell highlighted that the key to the side’s success will be preparation and playing the game their way.
She said the side is taking comfort in the fact it has beaten Mulwala twice this season, but it is aware that anything is possible when the stakes are at their highest.
“I try to keep training as normal as possible. There are a few photo shoots, and the hype is there, but our focus at training is just addressing what we need to work on,” she said.
“If we stick to what we can control and our game plan, that’ll get us over the line.
“It’s reassuring that we’ve beaten them twice already, but grand finals can do funny things to nerves and all the rest, but we will see what happens.”
The under-15s grand final will be held at Moama Recreation Reserve Court 1 on Saturday, September 21. Centre pass is scheduled for 10.45am.
