Carmody and coach Farran Priest separated the club’s 30-plus players, who have been regulars during the pre-season, into running groups after a two-kilometre time trial.
Since then there has been a range of programs, including stretching, ice baths, recovery sessions and even the final training session last Monday when an “open session” was held for senior and junior players.
“We started on November 15 because we wanted to get a good six-week block in and the last session was December 20,” Priest said.
Priest said the variety of the sessions had kept his playing personnel engaged.
“We did a fair bit of different stuff, along with the running components,” he said.
“We had Brett Henderosn run a training session, the girls from Toned Studio did a stretching session and we held a couple of recovery sessions at Dynamic Fitness.”
Echuca United trained on Monday and Wednesday through November and December, the final session an “inclusion training run”, which included Under-12, 14 and 17 players.
“We over-averaged more than 35 people a night,” he said.
Priest said the impressive work of Kynan Sharp, Corey Garner and Mason Coote stood them in good sted for a big 2022 season.
“Matt Harris has also been awesome, along with our new recruits from Elmore James and Jo Harney, and Bailey Boyack,” he said.
“Those three have all travelled from Elmore for pre-season.”
Echuca United will return to pre-season training on January 17.
“We will begin with two nights and then step it up to three in February,” Priest said.
“During the Christmas break we will be posting running sessions and encouraging players to still run in their groups.”
The four different groups were chosen at the completion of the time trial.
The trial was dominated by “six-minute runners” Justin Cantwell and the Garner boys, Corey, Jessie and Jason.
