The Production Sedans, Sports Sedans, Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association and Ladies Sports Sedans will be held, along with supporting action from Junior Sedans, Unlimited Sedans, Standard Saloons and the Humpy Holdens.
The club’s now traditional pit walk for the fans will occur from 1pm where fans get to interact and mingle with the drivers who may have give-aways and merchandise on sale. Kids take the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of cars whilst curious future competitors gather the information, they need to start their path to becoming a race driver.
In the Noel McGrath Memorial for Production Sedans, also doubling as a round of the state Production Sedan Northern series, local hopes entered include Rhys Lansdown, Robbie Miller, Brayden Creek and Jack Bear.
The Corowa members will have their hands full in a field that includes Scott Hawkins who in recent seasons has been very good at Wahgunyah. Stephen Laidlaw is still one of Australia’s best in the class and will be in town as will Dehne Sparrow, and Shane Hammond from Southwestern Victoria. Wayne Bourke representing Leeton is another to watch.
The Sports Sedan Grand Slam has attracted almost twenty-five entrants. Some of them are amongst Victoria’s strongest competitors in the class.
Ladies Sports Sedan drivers will compete in the Queen of the Murray annual event and once again Ladies have supported this huge event. Katie Meyer, Chelsea Hodge, Corowa’s Chloe Creek, Mia Lamb, Zoey Salau, Tay Barnard, Kellie Latham and Kayla Mannix are just some of the drivers that are nominated.
In the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association big Colin Young Memorial round Corowa is well represented with the class being well entrenched locally. Brandon Lovell, Daryl Joosten, Ben Schmetzer, Tom Schmetzer, Ross Maclean, Robert Williams, Tyiren Bailey, Justin Ewert, and Craig Dowell are all looking for big results in front of their friends and family.
Leading the way for club members in the Unlimited Sedans are Peter Schmetzer, Paul Williams, and Garry Coates. Dave Pitt from Bega, Kent Davey of Geelong, Corey McDonald from the Mount Beauty Club and Stand Brown from the Drouin club will be in town looking to add a trophy to their own cabinet.
Michael Fleming-Robertson will seek to continue his winning ways in the Standard Saloons, with Keith Cattermole, Harley Matthews, and Rhys Lavender representing the host club, Nyora’s Dean Sprint and Jaimi Barber of the Wangaratta Club are two drivers capable of challenging Fleming-Robertson which will make things interesting in the Standards.
The Junior Sedan field is still to be determined whilst in Humpy Holden demonstrations fans once again get to see and hear the famous Australian vehicle as they have a spirited go around the huge Wahgunyah Speedway.
Gates to the public open from 9am and racing starts at 3pm. A full canteen operates on site with hot, cold food and drinks. Entry is $25 for adults whilst the club offers aged pensioners and Children aged 12 to 16 a $15 entry. Any child under 12 is free. Family tickets are $60 for 2 adults and 3 children in the 12 to 16 age bracket. Veterans with the Gold or White Card who attend the speedway and produce the card receive free entry for themselves.
