However, before we look ahead to season 2025, let’s stop and celebrate this year’s stars of senior football and A-grade netball.

Here is who won the best-and-fairest awards for the 2024 season across the 15 Picola District league clubs.

Berrigan

Senior: Grant Martin

A-grade: Not publicly announced

Berrigan finished the 2024 season in 10th place, with six wins and 10 losses.

Grant Martin secured the club’s senior football best-and-fairest award ahead of runner-up Jordan Bird.

Blighty

Senior: Dane Leyden

A-grade: Meagan Lowry

Blighty made headlines this season thanks to a one-off feature from football influencer Prime Train.

However, the club struggled on the football field and finished with two wins for the season.

Dane Leyden won the best-and-fairest award.

In A-grade, Meagan Lowry was crowned queen of the club ahead of runner-up Tess Plattfuss.

Deniliquin Rovers

Senior: Cam Wills

A-grade: Gabrielle Barlow

Deniliquin Rovers came within a whisker of a finals spot, finishing in ninth.

The Rovers were led by Cam Wills who claimed the best-and-fairest award, followed closely by runner-up and leading goal-kicker Tyson Willis (39).

In the netball, the club celebrated an A-grade flag, with Gabrielle Barlow (best in finals) winning the club’s best-and-fairest award ahead of Natalie Sampson.

Jerilderie

Senior: Kane Hawkins

A-grade: Ella Arnold

Jerilderie sneaked into the remaining finals spot in eighth, before losing to Katunga by 79 points in the first elimination final.

Kane Hawkins won the senior football best-and-fairest award ahead of runner-up Sam Sleigh.

Meanwhile, Ella Arnold capped an impressive season with an A-grade best-and-fairest award.

Katamatite

Senior: Mitch Coleman and Toby Kopa

A-grade: Ellie Lazzarotto

Katamatite had an impressive home and away season, securing the minor premiership in senior football and A-grade netball.

Unfortunately, the Tigers couldn’t continue their hot form as the club went flagless in the seniors.

Leading goal-kicker Mitch Coleman (72) and star Toby Kopa tied for the senior football best-and-fairest, while Ellie Lazzarotto won the A-grade gong by one vote ahead of runner-up Taylah Hazelman.

Katandra

Senior: Mitch McGrath

A-grade: Bec Osmond

Katandra came close to securing a drought-breaking flag, but was foiled by a three-peat hunting Waaia.

Co-captain Mitch McGrath won the best-and-fairest ahead of defender Jye Limosani.

Meanwhile, Bec Osmond claimed the A-grade crown over runner-up Alice Clurey.

Katunga

Senior: Cam Bishop

A-grade: Rachael Crowther

Katunga impressed during the 2025 season, but the Swans were eliminated by Katamatite in the first semi-final.

Star Cam Bishop won the club’s best-and-fairest award, with Brad Crowther coming runner-up.

Katunga suffered heartbreak in the A-grade netball, losing the grand final to Deniliquin by three goals.

Rachael Crowther was rewarded for her season with a best-and-fairest award ahead of Sarah Weidemann.

Mathoura

Senior: Lachlan Carmody

A-grade: Rebecca McCluskey

Mathoura finished the home and away season in 11th, with five wins and 11 losses.

Lachlan Carmody won the senior football best-and-fairest ahead of runner-up Luka Simpson.

Meanwhile, Rebecca McCluskey claimed the A-grade honour ahead of Khayla Chester.

Picola United

Senior: Blake Azzopardi

A-grade: Jedah Huf

Picola United edged its way into the senior football finals series, finishing in seventh, before losing to Tungamah in the second elimination final.

Blake Azzopardi outvoted Blake Jorgensen to claim the club’s best-and-fairest award.

Meanwhile, Jedah Huf claimed the Picola United A-grade crown over runner-up Sasha Daniel.

Rennie

Senior: Not publicly announced

A-grade: Not publicly announced

Strathmerton

Senior: Sam Lewis and Matthew Ryan

A-grade: Olivia Ryan

Strathmerton performed well during the home and away season, finishing in second place, before bowing out in straight sets.

Sam Lewis and Matthew Ryan tied for the best-and-fairest award, with star goal-kicker Tim Looby (123) coming runner-up.

Meanwhile, Strathmerton went on a run in the A-grade winning two finals before losing to Katunga in the preliminary final.

Olivia Ryan won the Bulldogs’ best-and-fairest ahead of Meg Denson.

Tocumwal

Senior: Xavier Walker

A-grade: Kira Dickins

Tocumwal returned to the Picola District league for 2024 and finished in 12th place in the senior football with four wins and 12 losses.

Xavier Walker won the best-and-fairest award ahead of Cory Parish.

Meanwhile, A-grade star Kira Dickins dominated the best-and-fairest vote count, registering 61 votes; 31 ahead of runner-up Sarah Quick.

Tungamah

Senior: Sam Ferguson

A-grade: Maddison Cheek

Tungamah used its experience to wrangle its way to a preliminary final, but lost the match to rival Katandra by 31 points.

Star Sam Ferguson won the senior football best-and-fairest award ahead of James Irvine.

Maddison Cheek claimed the Bears’ A-grade gong ahead of Amy Perry.

Waaia

Senior: Jesse Trower

A-grade: Holly Boyd

Waaia etched itself into the history books by securing a three-peat senior football premiership.

Jesse Trower won best-on-ground honours for his performance in the grand final and also claimed the club’s best-and-fairest award.

Leading goal-kicker Charlie Burrows (87) came runner-up.

In the A-grade, Bombers star Holly Boyd won the best-and-fairest ahead of Mollie Karl.

Yarroweyah

Senior: Mitchell Paterson

A-grade: Ellis Sibraa

Yarroweyah struggled in 2024, with the senior football and A-grade netball sides finishing on the bottom of their respective ladders.

In a shining light for the club, Mitch Paterson won Yarroweyah’s best-and-fairest award ahead of Corey Reardon after both produced strong seasons.

Meanwhile, Ellis Sibraa won the club’s A-grade honour ahead of Jacinta Slatterie.
