Three DragonForce 65 RC Yachts were purchased in kit format.
These were donated with thanks by the local Yarrawonga Rotary Club, and were erected by the dedicated sailors. This has brought popular interest from both junior and senior sailors along with State and Australian Championships.
The capital works program was set in place to ensure projects were placed in order of need and requirement. Projects included: a new fridge; social bar remodelling; reverse cycle A/C (bar and kitchen area); rebadging safety boats and dragon boats; new gas BBQ; general maintenance performed throughout the club.
Approval for a second hobby wave yacht to be purchased was given and the club await the right yacht to emerge.
The Yarrawonga Yacht Club hope to entice more sailors and any other members of the broader community to learn to sail the craft with basic training.
‘Learn to Sail’ sessions will commence November 2023 – January 2024.
All Financial tasks are complete, and the Treasurer’s report shows the Yarrawonga Yacht Club Inc. finances are in good stead, in the black.
The club continue to strive to improve the YYC clubhouse facilities for members and participants. Best practices of waste product recycling are now in place with the correct bins and other receptacles for waste removal.
Governance again played a major part with the club’s direction and some rules will be amended at a Special Committee Meeting in late August/September.
Annual Fee increases will occur due to soaring costs in commodities, insurances and affiliation fees to Australian Sailing and Dragon Boat Victoria.
The club propose to raise fees by a maximum of 5%. This rise is, on average, $5 extra for the year 2023 to 2024 for all members.
Membership has risen to 172 from 150 this time last year, with the split of 79 females (46%) and 91 males (54%) with a lower retention rate of 8%. Slightly lower than last year by 3% with people moving away from the region.
Social members are up to 74 from 63, kayakers, RC yacht sailors and dragon boat paddlers, new members have together raised membership across the board.
Regattas in all disciplines were prominent in 2022/2023 with great participation from within the YYC Inc., and from afar with all enjoying the friendly club environment and facilities.
The dragon boat paddlers were competitive in the Ballarat Regatta in January, with some paddlers venturing on to the Victorian Championships followed by the Australian Championships…a fine way to represent and promote the club with over 4,000 paddlers from around Australia attending this event in Albury.
Regrettably, YYC Inc was vandalised with slashed shade sails, broken windows and a damaged door which was used to gain entry into the club resulting in the stealing of various items.
This was not accounted for in the capital works budget. Quotes were obtained for a state-of-the-art security system and now the club and equipment is protected 24/7 x 365 days.
The YYC Inc. Committee, thank the YYC family for supporting and promoting the club and the broader community who hire the event space and attend the summer time, Friday social nights on the lawn of Lake Mulwala.
The club have had numerous successful events to support and raise funds for the club and have even been supported by large business with corporate team building events in Dragon Boat Paddling.
This board has set great momentum for membership growth, facility improvement, capital improvement, participation through old and new sports and goal setting for individuals and teams.
