Getting his first taste of football as a junior at the club, Evans rose through the ranks to be a part of the breakthrough triumph against Euroa last year.
“It was a very, very special day, and not just special for the playing group, but special for all the families involved,” he said.
“Echuca footy club is a massive club, so to win it was very, very special, and a feeling that I’ll never forget for the rest of my life.
“Hopefully we can go again, because they don’t come around every day, do they.”
The club will be aiming to go back-to-back this Sunday when they take on Kyabram in the decider, with Evans, 21, certain the club does not lack the desire to claim another flag.
“We’re all best mates,” he said.
“It’s pretty easy to rock up to training on a Tuesday or Thursday and then on Saturday, because we all get along so well.
“It’s a really good culture that we’ve created as a group, and from top to bottom, everyone’s equal, so there’s no hunger issues at all, that’s for sure.”
A former captain of the Bendigo Pioneers, Evans is in now his second year with Geelong’s VFL side, captained by fellow Murray Bomber Angus Byrne, although there is no questioning where his loyalty lies.
“It’s really good, I enjoy it down there, all the access to facilities and that is first class,” he said.
“But I have a whole lot of fun at Echuca.
“I love home, and it’s always going to be my home. It’s always a nice feeling to roll in those gates at Victoria Park, you feel pretty comfortable.”
Heading into the game against Kyabram this weekend, Evans is not taking the opposition lightly, and despite not being a member of the 2019 heartbreak, is sure there are plenty of his peers who are out to get one back.
“They’re a very good side, they have been for a long period of time obviously,” he said of Kyabram.
“I didn’t play in the 2019 one when we got done by them, I was in the thirds then, but I’m sure there’s still a fair few blokes from that side that are still hurting from losing that one.
“Hopefully we can get one back on them, but they’re a very, very good side, and they’ve got class all over the ground.”
Now in his second grand final week as a senior Murray Bomber, Evans feels more relaxed, and is taking in everything that “the best week of the year” has to offer.
“(I’ve) probably just been able to enjoy the week a little bit more, because it’s a pretty special week,” he said.
“It’s probably the best week of the year, so we’ve just been able to enjoy it and embrace the moment, because like I said before, they don’t come around very often.
“So yeah, just enjoying the week, Tuesday was a really good night on the track and hopefully tonight will be too.”
